Cat World Domination Day

VIDEO / PHOTO / Social Media STRATEGY & Design

Overview

Hill’s tends to be viewed as a dog-centric brand, so the ask was to prominently feature cats. What better way than to plan a social campaign around a little-known holiday called Cat World Domination Day? The campaign was to be three days long and would take place primarily on Instagram. We were also to partner with a shelter to feature adoptable cats.

Approach

First was coming up with the campaign storyline: a group of genius shelter cats manage to hack into Hill’s Instagram via stolen phone. (Make sure your eyes are peeled around these cunning thieves.) Next, they’d need to make their presence known, and let us know why they’ve gone to all this trouble. The answer is simple: dogs have been ruling the scene for too long. Oh, and we’d also like you to throw away all your cucumbers.

What they lack in opposable thumbs, they make up for with ingenuity. So, it made sense that they would use phone screenshots, marked-up posts and some good old paper and pen to design their social posts.

Day BEFORE

The cats take control with a cryptic video of a phone logging in to the Hill’s Instagram account, plus some not-so-subtle changes to its scheduled posts.

CAT WORLD DOMINATION DAY

The cats release a list of demands, a flagship Reel, and a post featuring fellow adoptable feline overlords.

Day After

Hill’s regains control of its Instagram account, and the cats reluctantly (and perhaps disingenuously) issue a notes app apology from a stolen iPhone.
