Overview

In February 2023, Venmo partnered with Starbucks to run a co-marketing campaign and limited-time offer that rewarded users for adding Venmo as a payment method in the Starbucks app. Users were targeted through paid and social ads, owned media and through Starbucks’ channels. I created Venmo-owned assets for this campaign.

We were also provided with Starbucks’ cobranding guide and asked to match its creative direction while maintaining a Venmo look and feel.

Approach

We were shared on Starbucks’ creative approach for this co-marketing campaign, so I used that as a jumping-off point for Venmo’s deliverables to create consistency between both. In order to reinforce the partnership, we used Venmo greens to emulate a Starbucks feel.

There's a large crossover between Venmo users and people who use the Starbucks app. This played a role in how we wrote and designed these deliverables. One challenge was to figure out what Starbucks UI would be most intuitive and visually helpful to email readers.

We also got creative freedom here to really pump up the fun, so I incorporated a large, visually striking hero and animated the in-app tiles for a touch of (literal) sparkle.

Result

Venmo saw “incredible” adoption of Pay with Venmo in the Starbucks app through these deliverables alone.
